ICARUS, ANCHORS & YOU

This is my very first book. It comes from an exceptionally hard point in my life full of big changes, turning points and adversity. It’s written out of order to reflect the chaos of my life and the jumble that was my life at the time of creation. the dragonfly cover represents one of my favourite creatures – the bringer of change and is an ode to how delicate Icarus’ wings were.

The title is an homage to the story of Icarus, the boy who flew too close to the sun trying to escape the island of Crete. It is a reminder that all of life is maintain balance – fly too close to the sun and your wings melt, go to low and you risk drowning. This leads into the anchors part of the title. I was carrying around a lot of weight when I wrote this, holding on to so much. As I started to let things go I felt lighter. It was a reminder to only hold on to what grounds you, no what weighs you down. Lastly, “You”. This part is both specific and generalized. It stands for the two beautiful souls who took up the bulk of the pages, as well as friends and family, but it also stands for the reader and their relationship with balance and baggage. It’s definitely heavy on the symbolism.

Thus far, I have had plenty of folks tell me that this book helped them navigate through their own low points and others say that it was a reflection of tenacity. Whatever your thoughts, I’d love to hear them. If you’re looking to preview the pages, Amazon offers a “look inside” option you can have a taste before you buy. NORTH OF DREAMS

North of Dreams is the third and final book in what I’ve come to affectionately call “The Icarus Collection”.  (To be) Published August 16, 2018, “North of Dreams” is a message of hope and the encouragement to “keep on keeping on” even when you don’t have a clue what you’re doing.

Once again touching on mental health, love and self love, relationships, and understanding your path, North of Dreams is the conclusion to the chaos that started it all. North as a direction is often associated with adventure, and in many cultures is linked to the new moon, and midnight. It is the cusp of change, and a promise to turn dreams into reality.

Of  all the books, North of Dreams is something special to me. It signals the end of an era, and the journey into something new and exciting. Whatever your thoughts, I’d love to hear them. PEARLS & SWINE

My second book, Pearls & Swine was published April 27, 2018. Something about the process of the first book left me feeling like I needed to keep writing. Poem after poem fell out of my fingertips as I typed the words and Pearls & Swine was born. This one is a bit of a longer read with a total of 300 pages – it’s sure to last you a little longer than it’s predecessor.

Pearls & Swine was both named and based on one of those old saying my dad used to say all the time – “Don’t throw your Pearls to Swine”. I’m not entitely sure how popular this saying is so I’ll explain it quickly. Not throwing your pearls to swine is the idea that you through away things of value to you (time, money, love, thoughts) on things that don’t value them. The book centers on not wasting your time on things which give you nothing in return as well as a focus on mental health and self worth.

It’s a lot lighter than Icarus, Anchors & You and was written for myself as well as anyone else who was struggling with “throwing your pearls to swine”. Whatever your thoughts, I’d love to hear them.
